It's a little known fact that dehumidifiers have similar compressors to refrigerators or portable air conditioners and work by drawing the moist air from your room into the dehumidifier, filtering the air and then running the moist air over the built in condenser plate.

Once that is done, the dehumidifier reheats the air and sends it back into the room. The air that is returned is much drier than before and the moisture that is removed is collected in a water tank that can then be emptied.

On certain models, the dehumidifier can also be drained for continuous operation, perfect for your wine cellar.

As a result of this dehumidification process, the air in the room is heated slightly which is handy in winter (Maybe not so handy in summer)

If you are worried about warming up the air slightly, you could also use a reverse cycle air conditioner to dehumidify your room as it achieves a reasonably similar result.

Dehumidifiers are also a great compliment to use with a wet fuel heater like an unflued gas heater as it will naturally remove some of the moisture that gas heaters create and will slightly boost the heating effect of electric heaters.

Keep in mind that dehumidifiers perform better in warm and moist environments as compared to cold and moist environments and as they use compressors can make some noise when running.

I assumed the appliance would cut off when the desired humidity was reached but it appears it cuts off only when the container is full?

This was an experiment to see if it would dry out a medium sized room. It does, but a larger machine would probably be better

The product looks good and worked well for a few days but then stopped. Unsure as to reason for failure but it surprised me the effect it had on my room when it was working. Getting another to keep trying.
